Wynot boys open with a pair of wins

Wynot — The short turnaround from football to basketball didn’t seem to bother the Wynot Blue Devils, who opened their season Thursday night with a hard-fought 72-69 win over the Bloomfield Bees.

Wynot had three players finish in double figures, led by Devin Brummer’s 20 points. Killian Steinhaus added 14, and Kotner Koch chipped in 12.

Bloomfield’s Beau Eisenhauer took game-high honors with 29 points, while teammate Ajay Jensen added 11.

Both teams came out trading baskets early. Eisenhauer scored seven first-quarter points and Jensen added a three-point play for the Bees. Wynot answered with four points from Brummer and 3-pointers from Kason Hans and Lane Heimes to take a 15-11 lead after one.

Eisenhauer stayed hot in the second quarter, scoring seven more points, and Jensen added a 3-pointer and five additional points. But Wynot countered with one of its best stretches of the night. Brummer tallied eight points in the frame, Justin Heimes scored six, and Koch buried a 3-pointer as the Blue Devils used a 23-14 run to build a 38-25 halftime lead.

Bloomfield tried to rally in the third. Eisenhauer worked inside for seven points, and Keldon Loecker hit a pair of short-range shots. But Wynot continued its balanced attack—Brummer and Koch each scored seven in the period, and Steinhaus added six—to extend the lead to 59-41.

The Bees mounted one final push behind two long-range 3-pointers from Eisenhauer and another trey from Loecker. Wynot, however, sealed the win with seven points from Steinhaus and a crowd-pleasing dunk from Braylon Hans, improving to 2-0.

The Blue Devils kept their momentum rolling Friday night, racing to a fast start and then locking down defensively in the second half to defeat Winside 7433.

Wynot was red-hot from the perimeter, as six players combined for 12 3-pointers.

Brummer again led the way, draining five triples and finishing with a gamehigh 25 points. Braylon Hans added 11, including three 3-pointers, and Koch chipped in 10.

Winside was paced by Jaheim Hamik with 11 points, while Carter Krause added nine.

Wynot jumped out to a 23-11 first-quarter lead behind two 3-pointers from Brummer and longrange shots from Justin Heimes and Carter Hans. Koch added a pair of inside baskets. Krause scored four points and Hamik hit a 3-pointer for Winside, but the Wildcats quickly found themselves in trouble.

Winside tried to claw back in the second quarter behind four points from Jayden Aschoff and 3-pointers from Krause and Hamik. But the Blue Devils didn’t budge. Brummer knocked down two more 3-pointers, Hans hit a long trey from the left wing, and Koch added two more baskets inside as Wynot took a 37-23 lead into halftime.

The third quarter belonged entirely to the Blue Devils. Their defense held Winside to just one field goal while Brummer stayed hot, scoring seven. Nixen Heimes also came off the bench to hit a pair of shots as Wynot pushed the lead to 53-26.

Wynot closed the night on a 21-5 run. With the bench cleared, several players capitalized—Hans hit two more 3-pointers, and Nixen Heimes and Krayton Koch each added a longrange bucket as the Blue Devils cruised to a 74-33 victory.
