2015: Loberg earns silver medal in first meet of the year

RANDOLPH — During the Nov. 23 Women’s Bowling League, Dani Graf, 169 had the high individual games, while Nichole Meyer carded a 168.

In Tuesday Night Men’s League action, Paul Loberg rolled the high game with a 266. Wyatt McGhee shot a 217 on the night.

CREIGHTON — The first major Invitational of the season featured 150 of the areas best wrestlers and the first showcase for the Randolph Cardinals.

Drew Loberg finished second in the 152 pound class. Loberg (41-4) received a first round bye and pinned his next two opponents in the first round. Creighton’s Brady Wortman (18-26) in the second round and Pender’s Leland Bower (38-19) in the semi-final round. Loberg battled Neligh-Oakdale’s Garrett Allemang (49-7) for the title. Allemang earned the only point of the match to win 1-0.

Jesse Schmit (16-12) closed out his day with a second place finish in the 145 pound class, dropping via technical fall to Crofton/Bloomfield’s Jaden Janssen (14-3). Schmit defeated Luis Aviles, Norfolk Reserves, 1:45 into the first round with a pin. Schmit won his second round and semi-final match via decisions, 13-6 and 7-0.

Noah Scott (2-2), 160, finished just outside the medals in fourth.

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Lady Cards entered the season with new expectations and a new coach. The team left the season home opener the way they wanted with the 52-33 victory over the Osmond Lady Tigers.

Carlee Thies led the resurgent charge for the Lady Cardinals, Thies finished the night by dropping in 18 points.

Katelyn Backhaus stayed with Thies, finishing with 12.

The duo was also a force to be reckoned with down low as the two combined for 18 rebounds.
