RANDOLPH - Randolph head coach Mark Lech has only four wrestlers to replace from last years’ team that sent five wrestlers to Omaha at the end of the season. But it was a pretty solid four.
The Cardinals, with just one senior returning for this season, will need some young talent to improve along with improvement across the board, but honestly, it is what they normally get done over the course of the season.
“We had a good season in 2024-25 with five wrestlers qualifying for state and two of them bringing home medals,” the coach said. “We had four seniors graduate that were all a big part of the team, leading in most statistical categories. The seniors also contributed to a strong dual season last year.”
Sophomores Bentley Reimers (113), Talym Meyer (126), Kamdin Worlein (138), Tate Brodersen (150), Elijah Bermel (157), Ty Sievers (175), Joshua Miller (175) and Esai Warman (190) will join juniors, Cole Jensen (132) and Owen Junck (165) along with the lone senior Stewart Umberger (285) and freshman Trey Tjaden (144) to make up the Cardinals varsity this season.
The schedule for both the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals will provide plenty of challenges to sharpen the red-clad wrestlers throughout the 2025-26 campaign.
The teams open with a dual at Winnebago on Dec. 4 then head to Creighton for a tournament on Dec. 6.
Another invitational on Dec. 13 in Stanton then a quadrangular in Pender on Dec. 18.
The Wisner-Pilger Invitational will fill out the pre-Christmas schedule on Dec. 20.
The Ord Invitational is slated for Dec. 30 then Randolph will open 2026 in the Winside Invitational on Jan. 9.
A dual with West Holt on Jan. 13 then a double-dual in Hartington on Jan. 15 followed by a return trip to Atkinson for the West Holt Invitational on Jan. 16 as the Cards and Lady Cards get through the heart of the schedule.
The Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament is set for Jan. 22 in Homer, a tournament at Oakland on Jan. 24 and the Plainview Invite will finish out January on the 30th.
The final regular season tournament will be in Wakefield on Feb. 7 and the D-1 District Wrestling Tournament is on Feb. 13 and 14 in Oakland.
The Lady Cardinals have five girls out for wrestling and will be coached by Jerad Gubbels.
Senior Mabel Ngebeh, juniors Gracie Wortman and Madelyn Aulner along with sophomores Peyton Thelen and Khloe Weiss will make up this season’s edition of Randolph girls’ wrestling.
