Laurel closes out football season with victory

COLERIDGE - A deal closed last week by which Sam Preston took over the George Wernstrum restaurant and Mr. and Mrs.

Wernstrum took charge of the Community Hotel.

Mr. Wernstrum takes over the hotel on a proposition by which the furniture will later become the property of the hotel company. He pays a rent of $150 a month which will be applied on the balance due the furniture company until this company is paid in full, Mr.

Wernstrum to be credited with the rent paid.

Mr. and Mrs. Wernstrum have been very successful in securing and holding table trade as Mrs.

Wernstrum is a competent and we understand an original cook, serving many changes and thus furnishing the variety which is the “spice of life” and eats.

The hotel will be conducted along different lines in a measure.

The entire building will not be retained for transients but a certain number of regular roomers and boarders will be given accommodation to assure steady income.

It is to be hoped the new management find the hotel profitable and that business may develop until the stock holders shall realize at least a small dividend annually.

LAUREL - Bryan Armstrong closed his Laurel Cafe Saturday night and Monday moved the furniture to Plainview, where he will open in the same line of business. Plainview was Mr.

Armstrong’s former home and he told The Advocate that as there was only one cafe there he saw an excellent opening for another eating house, so took advantage of it.

Mrs. Armstrong went to Wayne Monday for a few days’ visit with her people while Bryan gets the furniture transferred to Plainview.

LAUREL- Newcastle came out of her hills and invaded Laurel’s hunting grounds on Turkey Day but had to go home with the short end of a 24 to 0 score.

Newcastle although outweighed several pounds to the man made the mistake of playing a smashing game against their heavier foes instead of using their speed to any real advantage, Laurel using their weight in off tackle bucks and end runs to great advantage.

Newcastle kicked to Laurel, Larson receiving and ran the kick back 20 yards; Brogden made a thorough tackle; Pedersen made the first down. On the next play Clyde Shively made 15 yards on an end run, bringing the ball to Newcastle’s 15 yard line. Clarence Shively went around the other end on the next play for the first touchdown.

The first quarter ended with the score 13 to 0, Pedersen making the second touchdown on a smash through tackle. In the second quarter Newcastle was held but made a short punt and Pedersen securing the ball ran for Laurel’s third touch down.
