1935: Hartington business women consider forming new group

HARTINGTON - Postmaster Louis R. Eby of this city received message yesterday that he had been appointed general chairman of the Birthday ball for President Roosevelt, which will be held in Hartington, Thursday evening, January 30, 1936. Mr. Eby will serve as general chairman for the Hartington community.

Proceeds of the benefit ball will be sent to the Warm Springs, Ga., institution for infantile paralysis sufferers.

Announcement of the appointment was made by Harry L.

Doherty of New York, national chairman.

HARTINGTON - J. P. O’Furey of Hartington, former state senator, and others called on Gov. R. L.

Cochran Saturday, November 23, to see whether the state would aid in the purchase of toll bridge across the Missouri river at Yankton, S.

D., to make it a toll free crossing.

Yankton, the delegation said, is willing to raise $170,000 and South Dakota may provide $250,000, leaving Nebraska’s share $250,000. The governor had no solution for the matter.

HARTINGTON - Mrs. Einer Sorensen was hostess to the members of the Paragon Ladies Aid at their regular monthly meeting this afternoon.

HARTINGTON - At a meeting of the directors of the Hartington Chamber of Commerce Friday evening, plans were discussed for the lighting of the city in view of the Christmas season. Following the meeting, the members conferred with Mayor W. H. Pohle concerning the matter.

Christmas lights will be strung throughout the business section of the city in the immediate future.

Business places will have brightly decorated windows and will have large stocks of Christmas goods and novelties.

HARTINGTON - Members of the Hartington Business and Professional Women’s club will meet in regular bi-weekly session this evening. The meeting will be held at the Lloyd’s Cafe and will open with a dinner at 7 o’clock.

Following the dinner hour, the business session will be held during which time plans for club federation will be discussed.

A delegation of members of the Norfolk Business and Professional Women’s club is expected to attend the meeting.
