Former residents pen award-winning song

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Former Cedar County residents, Marci Broyhill and Teresa Kay Orr traveled to Albuquerque, N.M., to attend the 2025 International Western Music Association Convention.

There, the duo, “Sisters from the Outlaw Trail,” participated in the “Penning Contest,” which involves a poet and musician teaming up to “pen” and compose a song. Contestants were given a theme and two months to create the melody. The sisters won the contest. Their song, “Waiting for My Sweetheart,” was performed at the evening’s award celebration.

IWMA preserves and promotes western culture through music and poetry. Broyhill currently lives in Dakota City, and Orr in Lonoke, Ark.

These sisters are proud to call Cedar County home.
