Wynot boys hoping to repeat last year’s success

WYNOT - To say the Wynot Blue Devils are coming off of a good season would be a huge understatement.

The Blue Devils finished the 2024-25 season in the D2 Nebraska Boys Basketball Championship game against O’Neill St. Mary’s, which ironically the Blue Devils defeated the Cardinals a week ago in the D2 football championship, where they fell 63-51 to complete a 21-8 season.

Four starters return from that team and 10 letterwinners to give head coach Lee Heimes plenty of firepower for a repeat run to Lincoln and perhaps a chance to avenge the loss at the end of last season.

“We have four seniors coming back and we are a small, quick, athletic team that is interchangeable and we could give teams problems,” said Heimes. “We work really hard and we want to improve and play together. We will be a very competitive team. We have the potential to be very good defensively and offensively.”

The four starters returning are Devin Brummer, Killian Steinhaus, Kotner Koch and Justin Heimes, but as the coach said, they are all interchangeable.

Joining those four are letterwinners Carter Hans, Nixon Heimes, Cash Lenzen, Kingston Hans, Braylon Hans and Lane Heimes.

Also seeking to find the court are Jace Lange, Bentley Guenther, Kason Hans, Dylan Wieseler, Payton Pick, Kameron Pick, Joseph Burbach, Trey Gowery, Blake Klug, Kreyton Koch and Wyatt Nelson.

Wynot opens the season on the road at Bloomfield on Dec. 4 then hosts Winside on Dec. 5.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic comes to town Dec. 11 and the Blue Devils will end the pre-Holiday schedule with a trip to Homer on Dec. 16.
