HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic girls’ wrestling program grew by one wrestler this season after a good season last year which yielded the program’s first ever state medal.
Evie Freeman is the returning medalist for coach Justin Bartling and is looking to take the next step after dropping a semifinals match in Omaha last season to bring home the third-place hardware.
Morgan Kuchta also returns after just missing a trip to Omaha last February, losing in the heartbreak round by a penalty point at districts making her hungry to get back on the mat this winter.
Joining Freeman and Kuchta will be freshman Ashlynn Dailey and although new to high school wrestling, she brings a load of experience from youth wrestling and junior high.
“Ashlynn Dailey brings a lot of youth experience to the team and will definitely help both Evie and Morgan improve in the practice room,” said Bartling. “There is definitely a chance all three girls will be representing Cedar Catholic at state this season and Evie is looking to get back and earn her way to the finals.”
The Lady Trojans wrestlers are set to open the season at West Holt on Dec. 8.
