OMAHA — Two Cedar County high school football teams finished the 2025 season at or near the top in their respective classes.
The state champion Wynot Blue Devils were listed as the top team in all statewide Class D2 polls.
Huskerland Preps Publisher Bob Jensen said Wynot put together a very impressive season and even more impressive state title game win.
“The Blue Devils beat D-1 State runner-up Crofton in four overtimes, and lost to ranked Archangels Catholic in one overtime, for its only loss,” Jensen said. “That beating of Central Valley in the semifinals shoulda tipped us all off. From the time I watched Wynot at Wolbach, I sorta felt like the jig was up — the Blue Devils had a great blend of skill and physical play…and some endurance, given how that state final went.”
The Cedar Catholic Trojan football team, which was rated as the top team in the state for much of the year, finished the season rated fourth in most statewide polls.
Cedar was upset by Ord in the state quarterfinals.
Jensen said despite the upset loss at Russ Hochsein Field, the Trojans had a very impressive season with wins over Fermont Bergan, three-time defending C-2 state champion Norfolk Catholic and fully healthy Boone Central football team.
