1935: Randolph football team completes undefeated season

Nov. 28, 1935

RANDOLPH - The long stretch of paving fin ished this fall, from Waterbury to Laurel, some 23 miles over picturesque hill and dale, will be formally opened with appropriate ceremony and speech making at Laurel Nov. 30.

Gov. Cochran, long a friend of No. 20, is expected to take part in the program. While state highway engineer our governor had a warm spot in his heart for this great trunk line, that not only crosses Nebraska from east to west, but also the United States from Portland, Oregon, to Boston, and is an important and popular highway to the west.

While the paving has been practically completed for some time the new route has not been complete- ly ocially marked, waiting for the program Nov.

30. The program begins at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, with a banquet in the evening. Mayor Hayes and a delegation from the Sioux City chamber of commerce are also expected.

The new paving gives solid paving from Laurel to Sioux City over a new route to Waterbury where the regular paving is picked up. Allen is cut out of the new route, which goes straight over the hills and is a beautiful drive in summer.

RANDOLPH - Nebraska has been allotted $497,471 for relief in 60 counties. No funds will be allotted after Dec. 1, federal authorities declare, although the president has stated that “no one will be allowed to starve.”

The funds were allotted from balances on hand from the period ending November 8. Reports show a gradual decline in the relief load from the high point last February of 55,217 cases to 35,817 cases on November 14.

Allotments in this part of the state are: Cedar, $680; Wayne, $1,207; Knox, $5,220; Dixon, $867.

RANDOLPH -Randolph finished an undefeated football season Friday by disposing of Allen 20 to 6.

Fox contributed Randolph's first score from the 3 yard line while Dion, on a reverse went over for the second score from the 8 yard line. The last tally was made when Huwaldt blocked an Allen punt and Fox recovered for a touchdown after Allen was forced to punt from their one yard line.

The game ended with Randolph in possession of the ball on Allen’s 8 yard line after Byergo fumbled a perfect pass in the end zone.

The highly touted Allen oense was stopped cold except for one scoring play, garnering only two first downs while Randolph accumulated 16.

Randolph’s team this season has rolled up 133 points to their opponents 12, every point being made the hard way, namely, by carrying the ball.

The Cardinals never completed a pass in the entire season and this lack of a pass oense made

ground going in exceedingly dicult the latter part of the season for the opponents played practically a 10 man line.

RANDOLPH - The Randolph chapter of Future Farmers of America will sponsor a pie social at the high school auditorium.

The proceeds from this social will be turned over to the milk fund from which is provided milk for undernourished Randolph school children. A musical program and one act play will precede the auction of pies. All ladies of the community over high school age, and patrons of the school are asked to bring pies.
