LAUREL — The Thanksgiving season is the perfect time to be thankful for our blessings.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the past year and be thankful for fruitful harvests and family near and dear.
When asked – people had a lot to be thankful for this season. Elroy Hefner, Coleridge, has been keeping an eye on the world news. “I am thankful for the freedom we have. We need to keep promoting it,” Hefner said. “We need to let the younger generation know freedom isn’t free.”
Hefner, who will be celebrating his 92nd birthday in December, served as a Nebraska State Senator for 17 years in what had been District 19.
Claudette Wege, Coleridge, has lots of reasons to be thankful. “I have many, many blessings,” Wege said. “Ten grandkids, two daughters and their husbands.”
Her memory goes back to a car accident that happened in 2007. Wege is thankful her and her husband survived the accident. “I was thrown out of the vehicle and Ron broke his neck. I am glad to be alive,” she said. “God was with us.”
Marilyn Dirks knows what she is thankful for. “I am happy to be alive,” she said. Several months ago Dirks was taken by ambulance to the hospital and then transferred to Sioux Falls where she had surgery for a brain bleed.
Dirks is now back in Coleridge and is living at The Embers. Family and freedom were among the things Carol Milander, Coleridge, listed as a blessing.
