HARTINGTON - Construction of a temporary church to serve Holy Trinity parish will be started here Monday morning. The building will be used until a permanent structure can be erected.
Within a few hours after a raging fire destroyed the Hartington Catholic church and its contents Friday, Msgr. B. H. Lordemann, pastor, and members of the parish started planning for the erection of a temporary church. A parish meeting was held Sunday afternoon and a committee was elected to immediately start work on securing some type of a temporary building.
The committee, composed of Art Burbach, Olaf Klasedrud, Fred Bruening, Art Arens, Frank Becker, C. N. Hertert, J. W. Leise, Clarence Hoesing, Leo Kathol, William Pick, Sr., and John Felmierer and Joe Leise, church trustees, investigated several proposals and finally decided on a pre-fabricated aluminum building which is manufactured at Columbus, Nebr.
The building will be approximately 40 x 120 feet with a 16-foot ceiling inside. The construction of foundation and footings will be started Monday. Delivery of the pre-fabricated walls and roof has been promised within 14 days. The structure will be located east of the present Holy Trinity school. When a permanent church is constructed, the temporary structure will be used for school and parish purposes.
Msgr. Lordemann asked The News to express his sincere appreciation and thanks to the many people in Hartington and nearby communities for their words of sympathy, assistance already given, and offers of future help.
