HARTINGTON — Even though winter is on its way, now is a great time to plan for spring 2025 conservation tree plantings. The Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District is taking orders for spring-delivered conservation trees. Trees come in bundles of twenty- five for $35 per bundle plus sales tax. Small Acreage Packages are also available for $40. LCNRD continues to carry conservation fabric weed mats, rolls of weed barrier, and 8" or 10" staples. LCNRD is oering two sizes of Coco Weed Mats: 3'x3' squares with 5- 8" staples and 24" rounds with staples. LCNRD will be providing rototilling services and seedling tree planting for landowners who wish to establish conservation tree belts and windbreaks.
Conservation trees play vital roles in our environment – providing protection from wind, habitat for wildlife, and beauty for our farms and homes – to name a few. If you are planning to enhance an area by planting trees, contact the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) or the LCNRD about purchasing and planting trees. Technical services and cost-share programs are available to help with the cost of establishing tree plantings; call to see what could work for you.
