Bears land five on All District team

LAUREL — Five Bear football players were named to the D1-4 All-District and honorable mention lists for their play on the field during the 2025 season.

The good news is, all but one of the five players named will be back next season for head coach Izac Reifenrath and his staff.

Sophomore Drey Puppe and junior Tanner Thompson were both named to the D1-4 All-District First Team.

“Drey was a very good and versatile player that could be put anywhere on the field,” said Reifenrath. “He started the year at quarterback but found himself in a wide receiver role at the end of the year.

“Puppe is a ‘do it all’ kind of player for us. He led us in tackles and interceptions and he is a young player I look forward to seeing what the next couple of years will bring.”

The junior, Thompson will also factor into any success the Bears have next season.

“Tanner took a big step in his junior year this season and he was another guy we moved around a lot,” the coach said. “He played many different positions throughout the year for us and was one of the few who came into this season with varsity experience. He will continue to be a big piece for us next season.”

Cade Johnson, another junior was named to the honorable mention squad.

“Cade is a good football player and a good leader for us,” said Reifenrath. “He does a lot of good things for us up front, Cade has been at the center position the past two years, but played a guard spot for us this season and he learned that spot very well.

“He does a good job of setting the edge for us defensively and will also be a big piece for us next season.”

Junior Talon Carson was also named honorable mention.

“Talon is a guy that just wants to be on the field,” said the coach. “He took major steps to earn himself the role he had for us.

“He moved to a wide receiver position and was very good for us there. He also played safety for us for the majority of the season and I’m excited to see what he continues to do for us in the future.”

Kolten Settje was the lone senior recognized by the district coaches and landed on the honorable mention list.

“Kolten was the voice of the team and always worked his tail off,” Reifenrath said. “He was a guy that didn’t know where he would be playing week after week but always filled his role well. He is one of three seniors we will be losing next year.

“He was also a good player for us defensively. We will have to find a guy to fill those spots that Kolten filled throughout his career.”
