HARTINGTON—If South Yankton residents want to keep their 911 service, they will have to pay for it, Cedar County Commissioners said.
When the 911 system was originally set up here in 1996, all Cedar County residents, except South Yankton residents with a 402-667 telephone prefix were assessed a $1 surcharge per telephone line.

HARTINGTON—When Adam Kantrovich attended classes at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City in the late 1980s, he probably never dreamed his career path might lead him back to this region.
He was recently hired as the new University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension Educator for Cedar County.

HARTINGTON— It looked a lot like Christmas here Friday.
The mild weather, along with the fun and excitement, drew people from the community as well as those from around the state and region to the fifth Candellight Christmas.
No official attendance records were kept, but estimates put the crowd at 1,200-1,500 people. People were standing three and four deep on Broadway to watch the parade.

HARTINGTON— Thanksgiving is a busy time of the year for the Food Pantry in Hartington.
Local schools and churches have been giving generously to the food pantry. Volunteers then put the donated food together in gift baskets for area residents.
Last year 47 food basket gifts were distributed for Thanksgiving. Through the charitable outpouring from the community there will be approximately 50 food baskets delivered this year.

HARTINGTON— The Athletic Committee recommended that eightman football be continued at Hartington Public School next year.
The Nebraska School Activities Association mandates schools with over 83 students in 9-11 must participate in 11-man football to be eligible for the state football playoffs.
