HARTINGTON — The Cedar County Commissioners were in session this week and their attention for the most part was occupied with the deferred warrant and Beaver Creek matters.
On Monday a large delegation from Precinct Two were before the board with a petition asking that the Beaver Creek ditch be granted and we are informed by members of the board that undoubtedly their request will be complied with.
The ditch will tap Beaver Creek at the bluffs and will carry thewater directly to the Missouri Rivers, a distance of about a mile.
This will drain several thousand acres of valuable land which has been damaged by overflows.
For building the ditch all land deriving a benefit will be taxed, whether adjoining the ditch or at a distance and the owners of this land were all here Monday excepting two, one of whom lives in South Dakota and one in Sioux City.
As soon as waivers are received from these two, the county commissioners will act. In the matter of deferred warrants, the board has decided to readjust the claims in their order and all just claims will be re-allowed and paid when there is sufficient money in the funds.
