RANDOLPH — The Randolph Police Department has been awarded $3,690.91 to purchase electronic citation and crash-reporting equipment, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. eCitation tools allow officers to issue traffic tickets electronically rather than by hand.
The systems typically use laptops or tablets and mobile printers to record citation details quickly and accurately. Because information is transmitted directly to state and court databases, the process reduces paperwork, improves legibility, lowers the chance of clerical errors and shortens roadside stop times, improving officer safety.
Likewise, eCrash tools help officers electronically document vehicle-crash information.
These systems collect and validate crash data, including vehicle details, locations, injuries and road conditions. Reports can be transmitted digitally to state systems, allowing faster statewide sharing of crash information, more accurate reporting and better analysis of crash trends.
The Nebraska DOT noted that the funding will allow Randolph officers to more efficiently track citations and improve crash reporting. “This highway safety grant funding in the amount of $3,690.91 will aid the Randolph Police Department in purchasing eCitation and eCrash equipment to better track citation and crash information,” NDOT Highway Safety Office Administrator Ryley Egger said.
Nebraska recently requalified for Federal Racial Profiling funds, which the state uses to support law enforcement technology upgrades. Egger said these tools help agencies statewide improve safety outcomes.
“This funding and the ongoing persistence of law enforcement personnel continues to impact injury and fatality crashes,” Egger said.
