Coleridge man dies in Highway 20 accident

BELDEN — One person died and another was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a twovehicle crash at the intersection of Highways 57 and 20 near Belden.

According to preliminary reports, a 2005 Ford Focus was traveling south on Highway 57 around 9:30 a.m. when it struck a 2023 Western Star semi that was westbound on Highway 20. Authorities have not yet determined whether the car stopped at the stop sign before entering the intersection.

The driver of the Ford Focus — a 72-year-old Coleridge man — was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old male passenger was transported by Randolph Rescue to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, then flown by medical helicopter to an Omaha hospital for further treatment.

The semi driver, a 36-year-old Georgia man, was not injured.

The crash forced Cedar County law enforcement to shut down a portion of Highway 20 for several hours. The road reopened by 1 p.m.
