COLERIDGE—A new memorial is in the works to honor veterans who have a connection to the Coleridge area.
Members of American Legion Post 114 have secured permission to construct the memorial near the corner of Broadway and Main in Coleridge where the old nursing home had been located at one time.
The land is owned by the Village of Coleridge according to Mert Hahne, Post Commander for American Legion Post 114.

WAUSA—Amy (Haberer) Burns didn’t grow up in the Wausa community and her ancestors didn’t come from Sweden but she fits right in with the Swedes in Wausa and the small town atmosphere.
Burns, wearing a bright blue dress and Swedish apron, was right in the midst of the Swedish dancers during the Swedish Smorgasbord at Wausa on Saturday evening.
Burns grew up on a farm near Coleridge and is a 2005 graduate from Coleridge High School. She is the daughter of Cindy Haberer and the late Roger Haberer.

FREMONT—A Coleridge native who now teaches at Fremont High School and seven of his high school students were recently featured in a news story in the Fremont Tribune.
The student, under the supervision of Scott Anderson, the Industrial Technology Instructor at the Middle School and High School, had completed three major construction projects as part of a hands-on-learning class at the school.

EMERSON— The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team finished the Lewis and Clark Conference tourney 1-2.
The Lady Bears opened their tournament play against Osmond in a must-win play-in-game. LCC defeated Osmond 2-1 taking the first and third sets.

KEARNEY—For the fourth time in as many years Aaron Haahr competed at the Class D State Cross Country meet, finishing 13th out of 151 runners.
Haahr finished the course in 17:40.2, right on the heels of the 12th place finisher.
The finish earned Haahr his third medal, his best finish, ninth, came during his sophomore year.

LAUREL—For the second year the Laurel Rec Club has sponsored a Laurel Youth Volleybal League which includes all ages playing on Sunday’s in Laurel. A total of 21 teams participated, consisting of 51 girls ranging from third to sixth grades in this league which includes seven teams from Laurel.
Area towns that are participating in this league are: Wayne, Wausa, Ponca, Wakefield, Osmond and Allen. The High School Volleyball players volunteer their time to this program by officiating and keeping score for all the games.
