HARTINGTON — During the days of Nov. 3-14, the elementary school students at Hartington-Newcastle Public School will show their generosity and caring by participating in an activity called “Feathers for Food.”
During this time of giving thanks and thinking of others, students will be dedicated to helping friends, family, neighbors, and others in need during this holiday season. The young students will be asked to donate somespecific items that are in need at this time. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase meat and dairy products for the Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry is in need of many different items as their shelves are pretty bare at this time. Everything is in need to help restock the shelves. Here is a list of some specific items that are needed put baskets together for this upcoming holiday season: Canned goods, coffee, ketchup, mustard, crackers, pasta, sauces, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rice, soups, pudding, personal care items and paper products.
As the students bring the items in, they are asked to write someone or something they are thankful for this holiday season on a colorful feather.
The feathers are placed on a class turkey, which will be displayed in the elementary display case for all to see how generous and caring the Hartington-Newcastle Elementary School community is.
