Lady Devils’ Kenna Oligmueller smacks her 1,000th kill

WYNOT - Wynot senior Kenna Oligmueller is winding down her final campaign on the volleyball court and is saving her best for last as she recorded her 1,000th kill in the District finals last week in her team’s state tournament clinching sweep over Paxton.

The acheivment matches one she recorded earlier this season when she collected her 1,000 career dig.

“To be honest, I never really thought I would get 1,000. Before high school I heard about a few people that would reach 1,000 but it’s a hard thing to accomplish so I never really thought about it going into high school,” said Oligmueller. “It was never really a ‘goal’ of mine because I always had a great team around me so their success meant more to me than my own, but I am so grateful for my teammates around me that helped me achieve this goal but most importantly that God gave me the ability to reach this milestone.”

“Kenna has started and been a key contributor for our team for four years,” said Wynot coach Tristan Wieseler. She is a competitor and loves the game. She leads by example and is such a smart player. She has worked hard to get to where she is today and it’s fun to see her accomplish this feat that is very hard to do.” Oligmueller is quick to share the accomplishment with her teammates.

“All of the credit for this goes out to my teammates from this year and years past, without them this would have never happened,” she said. “Their support never goes unnoticed and I’m so grateful to call these girls my teammates.”

Although she has thousands of great memories of her time on the volleyball court, one of her favorites happened just a couple of weeks ago in the Lewis & Clark Conference finals against Tri County Northeast.

“The match went five sets and we came back from a 4-0 deficit in the fifth set, it was so exciting,” Oligmueller said. “Through the years I’ve had countless memories piled up on and off the volleyball court. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better four years.”

And although the sand is running out on her senior season, she heads into the state tourney with plenty to play for and is looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s coming to an end and it’s so surreal to think about. I feel like I was just a freshman yesterday,” she said. “We have one big goal in mind this week. We’ve accomplished two-thirds of our goals this season winning the conference and making it to state, but we still haven’t checked off our last one, to win State.”
