HARTINGTON — Several special events are being planned around the area to help local residents celebrate Veterans Day.
There will be a special presentation to honor veterans at the school in Wynot at 9 a.m., Nov. 11.
Hartington VFW Commander Dean McGregor is asking for volunteers to help decorate the Hartington community by putting flags up at 1 p.m., Nov. 8.
All Hartington Veterans Day programs will be held inside this year, McGregor said.
'You just never know how the weath er's going to be in November, so we're just trying to plan ahead a little bit, ' McGregor said.
This year's Veterans' Day program will be inside the VFW Hall at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11.
At 2 p.m., a brief ceremony will then be held at the nursing home.
This year's guest speaker is Mike Reisig, a retired military helicopter pilot.
Reisig is expected to speak at the 1 p.m. VFW ceremony, as well as at a 2: 45 p.m. ceremony at Hartington-Newcastle school. The school program is for all HNS, Holy Trinity and Cedar Catholic students and will feature music from area students.
The annual Veterans' Day supper will be held at 6:15 p.m., Nov 11, at the VFW Hall. A social hour will begin at 5: 30 p.m.

McGreogr said help is also needed to take the flags down at 2 p.m., Nov. 12.
'All volunteers are appreciated,' he said.
A special Veterans Day program to honor Coleridge area veterans is also being planned at the LCC Middle School in Coleridge.
That event will be held at 11 a.m., with coffee and cookies being served from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to the event.
A program to thank and honor area veterans will also be held at 9: 30 a.m., Nov. 11, in the LCC High School gym.
The program will feature music and speakers.
