EMERSON - Cedar Catholic used a huge night by Calley Stewart and Addison Walter to advance in the D1-4 Subdistrict Volleyball Tournament Monday with a 25-11, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-19 win over Bancroft-Rosalie to reach the finals Oct. 28 against the hosts of the tournament, Tri County Northeast.
Stewart and Walter weren’t the only ones to put in stellar performances, as they entire team played well to earn the win.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a big lead in the first set by outscoring the Lady Panthers 10-2 after the teams were tied at 2-2.
Cedar used some B-R errors for three consecutive points by Stewart, a Savannah Pick kill and a Stewart stuff at the net followed by an Anisten Wortmann ace serve to complete the run and get the advantage to 12-4.
After a couple of points by the Lady Panthers, Stewart got going again with a slam and a Walter ace serve after Bancroft was called for being in the net pushed the lead back up to 15-6.
A Brynn Bernecker hammer and another Stewart winner and when the dust settled, the Lady Trojans were up 19-6.
Later in the set a Bernecker kill and back-to-back aces by Pick followed by an Autumn Kathol smash and Cedar Catholic was up to a bunch of set-points, 24-9 before finishing it off by the 25-11 final score.
The second set went to the Lady Panthers, but the Lady Trojans got it going again in set three taking leads of 9-2 and 15-5.
A winner by Ava Stewart made it 16-6 for Cedar then another Calley Stewart kill made it 20-13.
Ava Stewart did the honors with a slam to make it 25-17 and put the Lady Trojans in command in the match going up 2-1.
Cedar Catholic kept the heat on in the fourth set, taking it by the 25-19 final score to take the match and advance.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Trojans split a couple of matches in the Mid State Conference Tournament.
After dropping its opening match of the tournament, Cedar Catholic defeated O’Neill 25-15, 25-23 and 25-15 to advance to the consolation finals where Wayne outlasted the Lady Trojans 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21 and 16-14.
Against the Lady Blue Devils, the Lady Trojans took Wayne to extra points in the sprint to 15 after the match was tied 2-2 after the first four sets.
Walter and Ava Stewart paced a fairly balanced hitting attack with 13 and 12 winners respectively, Pick and Bernecker had seven each, Wortmann posted five and Calley Stewart added four.
Walter and Becker had two ace serves apiece; Wortmann, Pick and Kathol each had one.
Kathol recorded 23 set assists, Becker tacked on 13.
Wortmann had a great back row with 20 digs and 32 successful passes off of the Lady Blue Devil serve.
Ava Stewart had six stuffs at the net, Calley Stewart had five and Walter recorded four.
In the win over O’Neill in the first round of the consolation bracket, Ava Stewart had eight winners, Calley Stewart had seven, Walter and Bernecker had six each.
Kathol recorded a double-double with 10 digs and 13 assists, Becker tipped up 11 set assists.
A win over Tri County Northeast in the subdistrict finals would send the Lady Trojans to a district title match Nov. 1.
