LINCOLN — Nebraska’s high school volleyball postseason has a new look for 2025.
The Nebraska School Activities Association has fine-tuned how Class C1 and Class C2 teams advance through sub-district and district play — a change designed to balance travel distances and open more opportunities for wildcard qualifiers.
Under the new system, each class will be divided into four regions, with sub-districts formed through a “serpentine” assignment method intended to create more even competition across the state.
The bigger shift comes in how teams qualify for district finals. Instead of the previous 12 sub-district winners and four wildcards, the 2025 postseason will feature 10 sub-district winners and six wildcard teams advancing to the district finals.
The adjustment maintains the traditional two-round format — subdistricts followed by district finals — but reshapes who gets there.
NSAA officials say the goal is to ensure fairer seeding and more balanced travel while giving strong programs another path to the state tournament through the expanded wildcard pool.
