Wynot girls claim L&C Conference title
WYNOT — Wynot’s postseason push is gaining steam after the Blue Devils captured the Lewis & Clark Conference championship in a five-set thriller, then opened the D2-3 Subdistrict Tournament with a convincing sweep of Randolph.
The conference title match against Tri County Northeast on Oct. 21 showed Wynot at its gritty best. In a rematch of a Sept. 30 loss, the Blue Devils clawed past the Wolfpack 2523, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9 to earn the league crown.
The back-and-forth battle produced big numbers across the board.
Kenna Oligmueller powered the attack, hammering 25 kills and adding 32 digs for a double-double.
Jordan Foxhoven also recorded a doubledouble with 11 kills and 16 digs, along with four aces.
Haley Wieseler steered the offense with an impressive 54 assists, while Mya and Taylor Pinkelman combined for 21 kills; Mya logged nine blocks.
Jaylin Geisen anchored the back row with 26 digs, and Kiera Heimes chipped in with 14 digs.
“It was a battle all night and we just found a way,” Wynot coach Tristan Wieseler said. “This match will only help us as we head into the postseason.”
The Blue Devils (26-4) carried that championship energy into Subdistrict play, sweeping Randolph 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 in the Oct. 24 semifinal. The win advanced Wynot to the Subdistrict final against Wausa on Oct. 28.
Against Randolph, Oligmueller and Foxhoven led a balanced attack with 11 kills apiece. Geisen collected 14 digs, while Wieseler and Foxhoven added eight digs each. Foxhoven also fired four aces, and Wieseler ran the offense with 26 assists.
