HARTINGTON — Incumbent Candidate for 19th Legislative District seat, Elroy Hefner and his opponent Bert Evans were in agreement on several topics during a debate Oct. 15, but differed on the state’s system of taxation.
About 50 people attended the session, sponsored jointly by the Cedar-Knox Rural Action Group and the Cedar County Farmers Union. Jerome Noecker was moderator.

HARTINGTON — Administrators said boards at Hartington’s schools soon may have to make a decision that could prevent a number of students from attending classes on November 1.

HARTINGTON — The Homecoming excitement which permeated throughout the day and evening Friday, reached its climax with the crowning of Queen Joan Becker and King Ed Lammers during coronation ceremonies at the homecoming dance following the football game.
After a day-by-day build-up throughout the week, Friday’s homecoming activities began with a pep rally followed by a Homecoming Mass at Holy Trinity Church con celebrated by the Rev. Donald Shane, the Rev. Dean Uhing, the Rev. Norman Paar and the Rev. Cyril Werner.

HARTINGTON — The history of the Hartington Public Library, its present operation, and future plans were the focus of a 75th anniversary dinner Sunday night at the Hartington V.F.W. Club. The dinner was attended by 80 people.
Laura Lou Marsh, master of ceremonies, presented a history of the library. She noted that some local businessmen located a building for the temporary use in 1913. Approximately 1,200 volumes were collected from townspeople in the first year.
The present library building, which was funded by local sources and a grant from the Carnegie Foundation, was dedicated on Oct. 15. She read a graphic description of the event as published at that time in the Cedar County News.

HARTINGTON — Joani Potts, Hartington, was recently elected to a state office in the Nebraska Press Women’s organization.
Potts, a long time columnist, feature writer, and advertising sales representative for the Cedar County News, assumed the duties of Treasurer at the Press Women’s Fall Convention in Lincoln Oct. 5-6.
She has been a member of the Nebraska Press Women for five years and has been involved in other civic and community organizations.
