WAYNE - Jeremy Daffern, an advocacy specialist for the Nebraska Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, will be the featured presenter during the program “Listening Differently” being held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Kanter Student Center’s Frey Conference Suite at Wayne State College. The event is free and open to the public and food will be provided.
“Being deaf or hard of hearing is an experience I can never completely understand,” says Daffern. “Perhaps learning from people who have successfully navigated an increasingly complex world that is designed for people who do hear, can help us ‘walk a while’ not in their shoes, but side by side, so that we can be better friends with all our neighbors.”
Daffern is an alumnus of Gallaudet University with International Development experience in Latin America.
Daffern, who with ASL interpreter Meghann Cassidy, will share his journey of being deaf, resilient, and perhaps most importantly, hopeful in an increasingly complex world. After facilitating conversations, questions, and resources, the program will end by “listening differently” to members of the Wayne State Department of Music. The event is sponsored by Wayne State public and global health honors students, Wayne State’s Service-Learning Program, and the Nebraska Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
