Wildcats sting Bees to finish regular season at 6-2

HARTINGTON - Hartington-Necastle polished off the regular season slate with a 49-14 win over Bloomfield on Oct. 16 in Hartington to improve to 6-2 on the season while dropping the Bees to 6-2 before heading to the D1 Nebraska Football Playoffs this week.

The Wildcats were tied or trailed for all but 53 seconds of the opening 12 minutes, but took control of the game in the second quarter after the Bees went up 14-7.

Austin Sudbeck had quite a night, scoring four times himself on the ground and hitting Jason Heimes and Mason Krause with scoring touchdowns to pace the HNS offense.

Sudbeck hit Krause from nine yards away with 53 seconds left in the first period and after a Kayne Gratzfeld kick, the ‘Cats were in front for the first time, 7-6.

Bloomfield answered to open the second but Sudbeck powered one in from the two then handed the ball to Heimes for the conversion and Hartington-Newcastle was back on top, 15-14.

The Wildcats went up for good when Sudbeck scored again, this time on an 11-yard scamper to paydirt, then hit Krause on a conversion try and the lead was 23-14 as the teams headed for the halftime huddle.

Sudbeck scored again from the nine to open scoring in the second half then Heimes took a turn from 23 yards out and the lead was up to 35-14.

The Hartington-Newcastle defense held the Bees out of the endzone for the final two and a half quarters and the rout was on.

Heimes hauled in a 59-yard catch and run from Sudbeck early in the final frame then Sudbeck put a cherry on top of his night with an 8-yard dash and with 3:03 left in the contest, it was no contest.

Sudbeck finished his game with 172 yards on his 24 carries which included the four touchdowns and tossed the ball for 145 yards and the two scores.

Ashton Wakeley paced the HNS stubborn defense with nine tackles including four tackles behind the line of scrimmage and also recorded a sack.

Kyptin Collier also recorded nine stops and had a tackle for a loss, Cris Kneifl had two tackles behind the line and a sack, Aiden Collier had a tackle behind the line and Ty Opfer wrapped up 11 tackles.
