BANCROFT — A sluggish start turned into another Friday night rout for Wynot.
After fumbling away their first possession, the Blue Devils quickly found their rhythm and rolled to a 57-6 victory over Bancroft-Rosalie. The win lifted Wynot to 7-1 on the season, while the Panthers slipped to 5-3.
Senior running back Lane Heimes continued his dominant season, exploding for four rushing touchdowns. Kotner Koch scored on both sides of the ball — running in a touchdown and returning an interception for another — while Braylon Hans and Kason Hans each caught touchdown passes. Braylon Wegner provided Bancroft-Rosalie’s lone score on a 60-yard run.
Bancroft-Rosalie opened with the ball, but a third-down sack by Carter Hans forced an early punt. Wynot fumbled on its first possession, giving the Panthers a short field, but the Blue Devils defense stiffened and forced a three-and-out. Wynot then struck first when Heimes broke loose for a 47-yard touchdown, with Jed Nelson adding the conversion for an 8-0 lead.
The Blue Devils quickly took advantage of a failed fake punt, as Heimes dashed 30 yards for another score. Koch caught the PAT pass to make it 16-0. Wynot’s defense dominated the rest of the quarter, stopping a fourthdown run and setting up another Heimes touchdown from six yards out. Devin Brummer’s extra point put Wynot up 23-0 after one quarter.
The onslaught continued in the second period. Koch scored on an 8-yard run, and after a Braylon Hans interception, Brummer connected with Hans on a 48-yard touchdown strike. Nixen Heimes added the conversion to push the lead to 37-0.
Moments later, Koch picked off a pass at the goal line and sprinted 80 yards down the sideline for a defensive touchdown that made it 43-0. Bancroft-Rosalie finally broke through when Wegner found a seam and raced 60 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 43-6.
Heimes wasn’t done yet. The junior added his fourth rushing touchdown midway through the third quarter — a 58-yard option run — giving Wynot a 51-6 advantage as the running clock started.
With reserves in for the fourth quarter, Braxton Oligmueller found Kason Hans for a 12-yard TD pass to cap the scoring at 57-6.
The Blue Devils now turn their focus to the postseason. Wynot will host Fullerton in the first round of the state playoffs Thursday.
