COLERIDGE — This area was hit with the first heavy frost of the season Monday night as the temperature dipped to the 30 degree mark. A heavier frost yet was received here Tuesday night. The low temperatures were preceded by a rainy weekend at which time over 1-1/2 inches of rain fell. Most of the rain came Sunday night. The Nebraska Crop Report states this week that approximately 80 percent of the corn was out of danger from frost on Oct. 1.

HARTINGTON — Of the 364 births in Cedar County in 1949, 188 were boys and 176 were girls. There were six sets of twins born in the county.

HARTINGTON - Clyde Booth, 60, retired Hartington businessman, died of a heart attack at his home Tuesday. He had been ill about six weeks.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran church here Friday afternoon. Rev. O. L. Levorson will officiate.
Mr. Booth retired from active business in July 1953 when he sold his grocery store to Hirschel Forinash. He had operated Booth’s Grocery for about 20 years. He came to Hartington in 1923 to work for R. H. Smith in his general store. Booth bought out Smith about 10 years later.
Active in the American Legion and I.O.O.F. Lodge, Mr. Booth held many offices in both organizations. He also held district offices in the legion organizations.
Mr. Booth was born July 22, 1895, in Tekamah.

HARTINGTON - Willard Burney, who farms southwest of Hartington, was elected director from Cedar county to the Northeast Nebraska Experimental Farm Association at a meeting in the court house Tuesday. Fay P. Steward of Laurel, was elected alternate.
Burney has been acting secretary of the association since it was first organized.
Burney and Stewart will meet with delegates from the other counties in the association at Wayne Oct. 14, to start work of selecting a site for the experimental farm.
Representatives from the various counties working with the members of the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture will choose the location.
Burney said the association has over $40,000 collected for the purchase of a farm. The College of Agriculture will operate the farm.
Following the election the members discussed some of the requirements they felt should be considered when choosing a farm.

HARTINGTON - Arthur Ray Joslin, 54, died of a broken neck when a corn picker fell on him at his farm home southeast of here Friday.
He was greasing the picker when it tipped and fell.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Congregational church here. Rev. O. L. Levorson officiated.

HARTINGTON - Edwin Peabody, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Peabody of Hartington, is a regular guard on the Norfolk Junior College undefeated football team. A 1955 graduate of Holy Trinity high school, Peabody is a freshman at the Norfolk school.
