Hartington-Newcastle Public School recently received a $25,000 grant for instruments from the Nielsen Foundation, Inc. for the purpose of providing band instruments to low-income students. With the grant money, HNS was able to purchase a set of marching percussion, including three snares, a bass drum and a set of quad toms, all with new drum carriers; a Casio Digital Piano; three Yamaha Alto Saxophones; one Yamaha Valve Trombone; one Jupiter Fiberglass Sousaphone with a case; one Eastman Tuba, with a case; and a Conn 6D French Horn. HNS is incredibly grateful for this opportunity to fund the larger instruments of the instrumental music program by utilizing the money from the Nielsen Foundation. This grant helps the school budget to replace the much smaller instruments of the HNS band program and relieves much of the burden of the cost to provide the larger instruments. HNS students displaying the instruments include, Max Wiedenfeld, Peyton Kloster, Emily Climer with marching snares and drum carriers; (back) Owen Lange, Jupiter Sousaphone; Elliot Kneifl, Bass Drum and carrier; Kyptin Collier, Valve Trombone; Aidan Anderson, Conn 6D French Horn; and Maci Wudel, Quad Toms and carrier.
