Local runners compete in GNAC meet

SUMMERLAND - The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams competed in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Meet here at Summerland Golf Course with the Wildcats placing third in the team race and the Lady Wildcats’ Isabel Rolfes getting into the hardware at 13th.

Elkhorn Valley won the boys’ title with 12 points, LCC was second and the Wildcats were third after posting a 33.

West Holt won the girls’ championship with 12 points with the Lady Bears right on their heels with 16.

Elkhorn Valley was third with 18 and Plainview was fourth with 41.

The top 10 individuals were named to the GNAC All-Conference Cross Country Team in both races with runners placing 11th-15th named to the honorable mention squad.

Hartington-Newcastle’s Issac Santiago was fifth to make the All-Conference designation with a time of 19-minutes, 10.13-seconds and Jeffrey Heine was tabbed honorable mention, using a time of 20:05.74 to take 15th place.

Donnie Schulte was 25th overall and 16th in the team scoring with a time of 21:37.93.

Kellen Monasterio of West Holt was the champion for the boys with a time of 17: 50.64, Abe Johnsen of Elkhorn Valley was second in 18:35.48.

Callie Fisher of Lutheran High Northeast was the conference champion with a time of 20:46.99 with Felycia Kerkman of West Holt placing second in 21:00.82.

Rolfes ran the 5,000-meter course in 23:21.73 for a 13-place medal and honorable mention designation and teammate, Breah Steffen covered the course in 24:32.42 which put her three spots out of the hardware in 18th.

Both teams run in the D-2 District Meet Oct. 16 in Norfolk.

The 2025 NSAA Cross Country Championships are set for Oct. 24.
