LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge PTO K–8 and Middle School HAL students hosted a new event, the Fall Festival, Sept. 27 at the Laurel campus.
Families of all ages enjoyed a variety of activities at the event. The big attraction was the HAL students’ carnival booth games. The HAL students created the game concept, logo, built, and operated the game. There were 15 games, such as Bowl-o-Ween, Harvest Hoops, Blind Instinct, and Fall Fishing- all built and each made by the students.
For just $5, attendees could play unlimited games, earn points, and redeem prizes.
By the end of the afternoon, 149 tickets had been sold, a strong community turnout for the new event.
The activities just didn’t stop at the carnival games. More activities on the practice field, where free attractions kept families busy. Children decorated pumpkins, posed for photos at the photo booth, and played yard games.
A scavenger hunt, guessing jars, and even a slingshot range added to the fun. Local organizations were at the event: STEM activities from the UNL Extension Office in Dixon County, one of the activities at their booth was that you could make a whirligig, Citizens State Bank entertained with their “Farmer’s Fortune” booth, and Beauty by Reanna kept kids sparkling with glitter hair, skin art, and stick-on tattoos.
Other highlights at the event were the LCC Bear mascot made a cheerful appearance, while the Junior Class served hot dogs, popcorn, baked goods, and drinks from their concession stand.
Later in the evening, the LCC PTO K-8 hosted the Trailer of Terror, a traveling haunted house theater from Atkinson, NE. The spooky adventure ran from 6 to 9 p.m. and left guests with plenty of thrills and memories to take home.
Organizers credited the event’s success to community support and sponsorship.
Special thanks were extended to the LCC staff members, LCC Elementary Student Council, LCC Junior class, LCC Bear Mascot, HAL Middle School Parents, and LCC School Administration for helping at the event. To the sponsors, including Citizens State Bank of Laurel, the UNL Extension Office of Dixon County, Beauty by Reanna of Laurel, Missa’s Sue Salon & Spa of Laurel, Oriental Trading Company of Omaha, Thrivent of Syracuse, and private donors who provided pumpkins, supplies, and funding for the Trailer of Terror.
