RANDOLPH - Virgil Coulter, Merlin Evans, Billy Dwyer, Merwyn Hamm, Richard Nordhus and Marvin Storm will match furrows at the Harvey Mabeus farm, two miles north of Randolph on Saturday afternoon, October 12 at 1:30. All are members of the National Farm Youth Administration.
The contest is under the direction of the Lauer Motor Co., and under the rules all contestants will use the same plow equipment.
Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner up in this contest, they also being eligible to enter the contest at Neligh on Oct. 17. Winner of the Neligh contest may enter the finals at Lincoln on Oct. 25, where the winner will be awarded a new Ford tractor with a two-bottom Ferguson plow.

LAUREL - The Cedar county corn husking contest will be sponsored this year by the Laurel Commercial Club and will be held on Thursday, October 17, on the Magnus Hansen farm, located one mile east of Laurel on the old highway.
At a meeting in Laurel Tuesday George Berglund was named chairman and Hubert Fleer and Clarence Reimer all of Laurel, co-chairmen of the committee on arrangements, according to assistant county agent Howard Gillespie.
The field chosen for the contest is a heavy production field with rows about 100 rods long, and the ears of corn very uniform in size. Pickers are asked to be ready and on the line at 12 o’clock for the “Go” signal. It is reported that a list of prizes is now complete but was unavailable at this writing.
Anyone wishing to try out for the contest is asked to get in touch with their precinct committeeman.

RANDOLPH - J. F. Atwood, city clerk of Randolph, has been appointed as Chief Registrar to head the registration board, as set by the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, for Precinct 19 and Randolph, according to an announcement made Monday by Cedar County Clerk J. E. Dwyer.
