TILDEN - Laurel-Concord-Coleridge fell just short of its third win of the season dropping a back-and-forth contest to Elkhorn Valley Sept. 25, 34-31.
The Bears took a lead in the fourth quarter on a Tanner Thompson sprint to the end zone from the 11 and after the conversion attempt was no good, LCC was in front 31-28.
Unfortunately, the Falcons Logan Black caught his third touchdown of the night later in the quarter to retake the lead and Elkhorn Valley came away with the win.
LCC got on the board first on a 43-yard Drey Puppe field goal to take a 3-0 lead in the first 12 minutes.
The Falcons answered with Black’s first receiving touchdown of the game, this one from 54 yards away and Elkhorn Valley led 7-3.
Puppe capped off a Bear drive with a 1-yard plunge later in the opening frame and LCC led 9-7 heading into the second period.
Puppe picked off two Falcon passes and returned one of them 25 yards for a pick-6 in the second quarter.
His interception return was in the middle of two Elkhorn Valley scores in the quarter however which left the Bears behind 21-17.
Puppe would erase that deficit by the halftime huddle as he scampered 12 yards for a score late in the half then ran in the conversion to put his team up 25-21.
The Falcons scored the lone touchdown of the third frame which set up the fourth-quarter showdown.
Puppe reached the century mark on the ground toting the ball 22 times for 111 yards and the two scores, Thompson finished with 53 yards on 13 carries and also had a score.
Puppe and Thompson also paced the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge defense with eight tackles each.
Kyle Rasmussen had a tackle behind the line of scrimmage and Puppe had the two interceptions and Thompson jumped on an Elkhorn Valley fumble.
The Bears will take their 2-3 record into a homecoming game with Plainview set for Oct. 3. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Haskell Field.
