Rasmussen hits her way to a big career milestone

LAUREL- For the second consecutive week, a Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear volleyball player achieved a career milestone.

Carlie Kvols tipped up her 2,000th set assist last week and Rena Rasmussen slammed her 1,000th kill Sept. 27 in the Elkhorn Valley Invitational at Tilden.

Kvols and Rasmussen are both juniors on the Lady Bear squad which makes these marks even more impressive.

“To be honest, 1,000 kills isn’t important to me right now as long as we win,” said Rasmussen. “Some day I may look back on it, but right now I’m just worried about our next match and working hard to make sure I do everything to help us win.”

Her coach, Julie Kvols, wasn’t surprised at Rasmussen’s response.

“She is just such a hard worker and I am so proud of her,” said Kvols. “When the game gets tough, she wants the ball and I just love that about her.”

For now, 1,000 is just another number on the way to bigger and better things for Rasmussen and the Orange and Black.

“I really don’t care what number I’m at right now, as long as I get the next one,” said Rasmussen. “This is as much of a team accomplishment as my accomplishment. Every kill needs someone to receive the serve and pass it on, then it needs to be set, all I do is finish what at least two people have already done the work to get the ball there.”

Her mission this season is quite simple. “I just want to show up every day and be ready to work to get better,” she said. “Our entire team is that way. We want to improve every day and win every point, that’s our goal.”

With that type of attitude, chances are this may be a very special season to be a Lady Bear.
