WYNOT — Wynot’s offense and defense were in sync Friday night, as they crushed Lyons Decatur Northeast 58-0 in a game that was over before halftime.
The Blue Devils’ relentless attack and smothering defense left the Cougars with little to show for their efforts, forcing a running clock in the second half.
Wynot continues to roll, showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive dominance in the decisive victory.
The Blue Devils (4-1) wasted no time, racing to an early lead and never looking back, as they shut down the Cougars (1-4) in every phase of the game.
The onslaught started with a methodical opening drive, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown plunge from Nixon Heimes. Cash Lenzen caught the ensuing PAT pass, putting the Blue Devils up 8-0.
Lyons Decatur Northeast quickly went three-and-out, and Wynot was back on the attack. A 20-yard option keeper by Devin Brummer set up a 6-yard touchdown run by Lane Heimes, who made it 14-0 by the end of the first quarter after a missed extra point.
Wynot’s offense continued to shine throughout the first half. Brummer found Kotner Koch for a 7-yard touchdown toss, and Lane Heimes added his second rushing touchdown of the night—a 11-yard run that extended the lead to 30-0. The Cougars’ offense, which struggled to gain any traction, was stymied again by a Killian Steinhaus interception, giving Wynot another short field to work with. Just two plays later, Lane Heimes had his third touchdown of the night—a 20-yard run that pushed the lead to 38-0.
The Blue Devils’ offense put up 413 total yards, including 353 rushing yards. Lane Heimes was the star on the ground, rushing 13 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Devin Brummer contributed 46 rushing yards and 70 passing yards, including a touchdown to Koch. Koch also contributed heavily in the receiving game, catching five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Wynot’s defense, meanwhile, was absolutely suffocating, holding Lyons Decatur to just 82 rushing yards and a mere 16 yards through the air. The Cougars couldn’t get anything going, and the Blue Devils capitalized on every opportunity. After a Braylon Hans interception halted another Lyons Decatur drive, Wynot entered halftime with a commanding 38-0 lead. The second half continued to be a showcase of Wynot’s dominance. Kotner Koch returned the second-half kickoff to the Cougars’ 20-yard line, and on the first play from scrimmage, he caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Brummer. Koch also snagged the PAT pass, giving Wynot a 46-0 advantage. Lyons Decatur’s misfortunes continued when a bad snap on a punt led to a quick recovery by the Blue Devils at the Cougars’ 9-yard line. Two plays later, Kason Hans hit Cash Lenzen for a 5-yard touchdown pass to make it 52-0.
With the running clock in effect, the game moved quickly, but there was still time for one final highlight. With the Cougars pinned deep on their own side of the field, Jace Lange blocked a punt and snatched the ball out of the air, running it into the end zone for a defensive touchdown. The final score was a resounding 58-0 in favor of Wynot.
By the numbers, Wynot posted an impressive 413 yards of total offense. In contrast, Lyons Decatur finished with just 93 yards. The Blue Devils dominated both sides of the ball, with Jed Nelson and Steinhaus leading the defensive charge, each registering six tackles. Steinhaus also added an interception.
Wynot’s offense posted big numbers on the ground, while the defense continually shut down the Cougars’ attempts to move the ball.
Wynot’s perfect blend of offensive efficiency and defensive intensity proved to be too much for Lyons Decatur Northeast to handle as the Devils claimed the big win.
Wynot takes on Walthill this Friday.
