CROFTON - The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams headed west for the Crofton Invitational cross country meet held at Lewis & Clark State Park Sept. 25.
The Wildcats placed sixth in the boys division which was won by Norfolk Catholic with 18 points. Bloomfield/ Wausa was second with 50 with Wayne third with 52.
Hartington-Newcastle posted a score of 116.
Issac Santiago was the top finisher for the Wildcats crossing the timing mat in 18-minutes, 54.30-seconds which placed him just outside of the medals at 18th.
Norfolk Catholic’s Jonah Ash was the medalist, covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:51.90, Ty Freeman from Bloomfield/Wausa was second in 16:53.90.
Aidan Anderson was next for the Wildcats coming in 28th, Jeffrey Heine was 33rd, Donnie Schulte was 39th and Kayden Gustman placed 56th.
Crofton won the girls championship with a team score of 14, Wayne was second with 42 and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was third with 50.
Crofton freshman Avery Arens ran away from the field in the individual race finishing over three minutes ahead of the second place runner.
Arens’ time was 17:04.62 with Wayne freshman Tayla Hurner second in 20:21.44.
Isabel Rolfes was the top Lady Wildcat finishing in 24:32.04 which put her in 28th while teammate, Breah Steffen was 36th with a time of 26:04.81.
Both teams were set to run in the University of Nebraska-Kearney Classic Sept. 29 before heading to Creighton Oct. 2.
