HARTINGTON - The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats dropped three matches over the past week in a triangular at home and on the road in a Greater Northeast Activities Conference bout with Summerland.
Elkhorn Valley and Plainview came to Hartington Sept. 23 for the triangular and the Lady Wildcats were swept in both matches with the Lady Pirates winning 27-25 and 25-22 and the Lady Falcons taking a 25-23 and 25-22 match from HNS.
The Lady ‘Cats played the Lady Falcons tight in both sets but eventually fell by the 25-23 and 25-22 set finals.
Ella Eickhoff paced the Lady Wildcat hitting attack with six kills in the match, Karissa Bruning added three and Vayda Lippert and Nora Lange each had two winners.
Lainey Morten recorded 13 set assists and had a couple of ace serves, Justyce Sohl and Bruning added an ace apiece.
Bruning was also a menace at the net defensively with six blocks in the match.
HNS was in the first set with the Lady Pirates, forcing a couple of extra points before the winner was determined then dropped the second set and the match by the 25-22 final score.
Bruning led the attack with five kills, Eickhoff added four while Lippert and Lange each had three.
Morten had a couple of ace serves and tipped up 12 assists.
Katelyn Wubben had seven digs, Sohl had six.
The Lady Wildcats were coming off of a win over Summerland when they met just three days apart from a meeting the teams had in the GNAC Round Robin Tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Bobcats had surprisingly little trouble with HNS in this match winning two set by a score of 25-16 and sweeping the match with a 25-8 score in the third set.
The Lady Wildcats were set to hit the road with a match against Wausa on Sept. 30 then remain on the road for a triangular with Creighton and St. Mary’s in Creighton on Sept. 2.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge comes to town on Oct. 7.
