1960: Stueckrath, Stevens earn Homecoming crowns

Sept. 21, 1950

RANDOLPH—Harold Sherwood, Randolph mayor, was one of 45 mayors from towns and cities of South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa who were guests of honor at the formal dedication of Sioux City’s new auditorium on Saturday. The mayors were guests at a noon luncheon, and were taken on a conducted tour of the city. They were guests at a stage show in the evening.

Sept. 21, 1950

RANDOLPH— Mrs. John Burmester and her mother, Mrs. Anna Tagge, who came here from Germany after the war to make her home, received a number of prizes on their needlework at the Wayne County Fair the past week. Mrs. Tagge enjoyed being able to enter items at the fair and attending.

Sept. 22, 1955

HARTINGTON—TwoCedarcountyyoungmen volunteered for the draft and left Tuesday morning for Omaha where they will be inducted into the U.S. Army and sent to training camps.

The youths were Michael A. Rossiter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rossiter of Hartington, and Harold J. Wintz, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wintz of Randolph.

Sept. 22, 1955

RANDOLPH — The annual Cedar County Teacher’s banquet and meeting will be held at the Methodist church in Belden Wednesday, September 28, starting at 6:30 p.m., Supt. C. A. Carkoski announced.

John Lynch, social security field director for the Nebraska State Educational association, will be the main speaker. He will talk on the various aspects of social security for teachers. All rural and town teachers are invited to attend the meeting. Reservations must be sent to Bruce Warner, superintendent of schools at Belden, by Monday, Sept. 26.

Sept. 29, 1960

RANDOLPH— Marvin Stueckrath and Margery Stevens reigned as 1960 Homecoming King and Queen of Randolph High School after their identities were revealed at the Homecoming dance Friday evening at the city auditorium. Logene Dunklau, crowned this year’s royalty.

RANDOLPH— Joyce Delozier, a Norfolk Junior College sophomore student, has been elected to the Senate, the college’s organization which plans student activities, meeting once a week. The 17-member group is under the direction of Cecil B. Green, former Randolph Methodist minister.

Sept. 29, 1960 RANDOLPH— Dennis Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Black, is one of 95 band members chosen to represent Utah State University on a tour of the Pacific Coast States. Dennis is a junior in the College of Forestry at Utah State University.

Sept. 24, 1970

RANDOLPH— Mark D. Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Meyer, is one of 138 students in Nebraska who have been named Semifinalists in the 1970-71 National Merit Scholarship Program. Mark is a senior at Randolph High School.

RANDOLPH— Randy Lienemann SA left this week for Pensacola, Fl. where he will begin five months schooling in Communication with the U.S. Navy. Following basic training at San Diego, Calif., he spent a leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lienemann.

RANDOLPH— Ladies from the St. Frances parish attending the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women at Elgin on Thursday were Mrs. Paul Mannion, Mrs. Don Winkelbauer, Mrs. Don Bauer, Mrs. Paul Wattier, Mrs. Harrison Huwaldt, Miss Rose Klug and Miss Mary Halbur. Rev. Otto Buehler also attended the convention, which had an attendance of 700 Persons.
