HARTINGTON - A couple of key injuries are hampering the Hartington-Newcastle volleyball team as the season kicks into the final half of the campaign.
Summerland, a team the Lady ‘Cats had just swept on Sept. 13 in Atkinson, swept HNS in Hartington on Sept. 16, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-8.
“We are working our way through some injuries,” said Hartington-Newcastle coach Sarah Edwards. “We are having to try athletes in different positions in order to compete.”
Vayda Lippert paced the HNS attack with five kills, Karissa Bruning recorded three, Justyce Sohl had a couple and Nora Lange had one.
Laney Morten tipped up nine set assists and joined Lippert, leading the team with seven digs, Bruning contributed six digs.
Bruning also successfully passed along 10 serves in serve receive Lange recorded 14 good passes.
The Lady ‘Cats were set to host Plainview and Elkhorn Valley in a triangular on Sept. 23 and will travel to Wausa for a best-of-five-sets match on Sept. 30.
