Nebraska’s 2025 harvest outlook points to record corn, strong soybean yields

LINCOLN — Nebraska farmers are on track for a big 2025 corn crop — potentially a record — while soybean prospects have firmed on higher yield estimates even as acreage slips from last year.

According to the latest USDA forecast, the Nebraska 2025 corn production harvest is expected to be at 1.967 billion bushels with an average yield of 191 bushels per acre — the highest on record if realized.

Earlier in August, USDA estimated 1.93 billion bushels, based on 10.06 million acres expected to be harvested for grain and a 192 bushel-per-acre yield.

For comparison, 2024 Nebraska corn finished at about 1.803 billion bushels on a 188 bushel-per-acre yield, with 9.59 million acres harvested for grain.

That puts the 2025 outlook above last year on both acreage and production.

The USDA statistical service now projects 2025 Nebraska soybean production at 292.8 million bushels on a yield of 61 bushels-peracre.

That’s up from the August forecast of 270.8 million, but still below last year’s total because of fewer acres headed to harvest.

In August, USDA projected 217 million bushels with 4.75 million acres for harvest and a 57 bushel-per-acre yield, underscoring how later-season weather boosted the outlook.

Nebraska’s 2024 soybeans totaled 301.0 million bushels on 5.24 million harvested acres with a 57.5 bushel-per-acre yield.

These projections mean Nebraska’s corn is positioned higher on both acres and production — potentially a new Nebraska state record — while soybeans are trending below last year in total bushels despite stronger yields, due to reduced soybean acreage in 2025.
