RANDOLPH - The Creighton Bulldogs came to town Sept. 12 and went back west with a 48-0 win over the Cardinals to take a 2-1 record home and leaving the Cards at 0-3.
“We had a tough time getting any offense going against their defensive front,” said Randolph coach Mark Lech. “We played well early , but we got overrun in the second quarter and couldn’t recover.”
Three second quarter touchdowns turned an 8-0 game into a 32-0 game at the halftime huddle.
Two additional scores in the third frame put the continuous clock in motion and neither team would score in the final 12 minutes.
“Our offensive and defensive lines played well,” Lech said. “But it wasn’t enough to beat a good Bulldog team.”
The Rebirds had trouble moving the football, finishing with 103 total yards.
Ryan Engel completed 7-of-19 passes for 51 yards and carried the ball 29 times for 41 yards.
Bentley Reimers and Tate Brodersen each caught three Engel aerials for 16 and 13 yards respectively. Luke Harder hauled in one pass for 22 yards.
Engel paced the rushing attack with 41 yards on his 18 carries, Eli Bermel added 13 yards on three carries and Brodersen recorded seven yards on his three totes of the pigskin.
Defensively, Bermel was in on 11 tackles including three solo stops. Brodersen was in on eight; Ty Sievers, Kody Junck and Cole Jensen were in on six apiece; Owen Junck, Jaylen Junck and Reimers each had five stops.
Kody Junck recovered a Creighton fumble and Jaylen Junck picked off a pass.
The Cards travel north to take on Wynot Sept. 19 who are coming off a hard fought 36-30 loss to undefeated Archangels Catholic last week.
