LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear and Bear cross country teams ran to a championship and runner-up finish respectively at Cedar View Country Club on Sept. 11.
The Lady Bears outran Ponca 25-35 to grab the big plaque and the Bears were behind Homer which used a score of just 23 to put LCC in the second position with 56 points.
Homer was third in the girls’ race with 43 and Tri-County Northeast was fourth with 68.
Ava Brennan of Ponca won the gold medal individually, but the Lady Bears had four runners in the top 15 led by Kate Tasler who was third in a time of 22-minutes, 3.4-seconds.
Brennan ran the 5,000-meter course 20:43.90.
LCC’s Leah Gould was fifth in 22:54.60, Faith Galvin was eighth in 23:06.30 and Addy Hoeppner was 13th in 24:04.10.
Abbie Brummels finished just out of the medals, coming in 17th in a time of 24:18.50 and Ava Christiansen was 22nd in 24:53.50.
Ponca’s Gannon Pfister won the boys’ race, covering the course in 18:12.42, Micah Cuevas of Newman Gove/St. Edward was second, just over 17 seconds behind.
Shane Langford was the first Bear across the finish line in sixth in 19:25.80, Owen Johnson (21:06.20) and Sebastian Van Drongelen (21:08.20) finished 16th and 17th respectively.
Hunter McGhee came in 29th with a time of 22:43.60 while Luke Jackson was 45th in 24:09.90. Dillion Sanderson was 53rd for LCC with a time of 26:33.60.
Both teams were set to run in the Wayne Invitational on Sept. 15 and will run in the Pender Invitational on Sept. 18 at Twin Creeks Golf Club just north of Pender.
