EMERSON - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears earned the first win of the young season Sept. 12 with a 48-8 win over the Tri-County Northeast Wolfpack.
The game marked the first career victory for new head coach, Izac Reifenrath.
The score didn’t indicate the domination the Bears had during the contest.
Take into account both teams were 0-2 coming into the game and then realize LCC accumulated 314 yards on the night compared to 52 by the Wolfpack, and take into account 229 of those yards were on the ground and you have the recipe for what is usually referred to as a whooping.
Drey Puppe scored all of the points the Bears needed in the first two frames on a couple of short runs and a pass reception and early in the second frame, LCC was up 22-0.
After Puppe’s third score, the Wolfpack returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a score, but the Bears would score twice before the halftime huddle.
Tanner Thompson, who would finish with 73 yards on the ground and a couple of touchdowns, took off on a 38-yard dash to the endzone before Paxton Hoeppner hauled in an 11-yard pass from Puppe to send the teams to the break with the Bears in control, 35-8.
Thompson gathered in a 13-yard pass from Puppe to open the third quarter then finished the frame with a 6-yard blast to paydirt later in the quarter to give LCC the lead by the final score, 48-8 and start the 35-point rule the remainder of the game.
The Bears will be looking to ride the momentum of their first win of the season when they host Lutheran High Northeast on Sept. 19.
Both teams will bring a 1-2 record into the game with the Eagles coming off of a 58-22 loss to Hartington-Newcastle last week after getting a 62-20 win in week two over winless Newman Grove/St. Edward back on Sept. 5 and season-opening loss to Wisner-Pilger, 44-8.
