WAKEFIELD - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear volleyball team won the Wakefield Invitational Tournament title and remained unbeaten on the season.

The Orange and Black picked up wins over Ponca and Lyons-Decatur Northeast Sept. 11 and wins over Pierce, Elkhorn Valley and Wakefield Sept. 13 to move their record to 9-0.

In the game with the Lady Bluejays in the finals of the tournament, the Lady Bears lost only their second set of the season when Pierce took the opening set, 26-24.

LCC came back in the second set to squeeze out a 25-23 win, then took control of the match late, winning set three 25-19.

Rena Rasmussen recorded a triple-double in the match, slamming 14 kills, registering 17 digs and successfully passing 11 serves received.

Kaida Eriksen hit nine winners and Tyler Recob added eight.

Carlie Kvols tipped up 30 set assists and contributed five kills; Rasmussen, Kvols and Justice Olson each had a pair of ace serves.

Recob, Boston Brown, Rasmussen and Kvols each had two blocks at the net, Recob and Hattie McCorkindale had seven digs apiece.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge swept Elkhorn Valley to make its way to the finals match with a 2521 and 25-18 win over the Lady Falcons.

Rasmussen again led the Lady Bear attack with 13 winners and completed a double-double with 11 digs.

Recob and Eriksen had six and five kills respectively and Kvols had 26 set assists.

McCorkindale served a couple of aces while Olson added a single ace.

Recob successfully passed 13 serves, Eriksen added 11.

In their first game on Sept. 13, the Lady Bears swept past Wakefield 25-10 and 25-13.

Rasmussen had a dozen kills, Taelynn Settje and Eriksen tacked on three winners each.

Recob had an amazing match at the service line, serving up eight aces in the match, Eriksen added three and McCorkindale recorded two. Kvols recorded 13 assists.

In LCC’s second match on Sept. 11, the Lady Bears lost their first set of the season when Ponca took the second set 26-24 after the Lady Bears had won set one, 25-13.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge responded in the third set with a resounding 25-16 win to close out the set.

LCC defeated Lyons-Decatur Northeast in the opening match of the tournament for both teams.

The Lady Bears won the first set 25-11 then closed out the match with a 25-17 win over the Lady Cougars in the second set.

Rasmussen had a steady 12 kills in the match, Eriksen added seven and Recob and Kvols each recorded four winners.

Recob had another good match at the service line with five aces, Kvols tipped up 19 assists.

Eriksen and Recob each had seven digs.

LCC was set to take its 9-0 record to the Lady Bears home court Sept. 16 against Neligh-Oakdale for a Greater Northeast Activities Conference match.

The Lady Bears will host Plainview in another GNAC contest on Sept. 18 before heading south for a long journey to the alwaystough Central City Invitational on Sept. 20.

LCC will close out a busy week on the court with a match against Lutheran High Northeast Sept. 23 on the road.
