HARTINGTON — Members and wives of the Bow Valley Schuetzen Verein held their annual celebration at the grounds near Bow Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Bow Valley Schuetzen Verein was founded in 1896 at the instigation of John Wuestewald, John Noecker and W.E. Schulte, who came to Cedar County in the early days.

This resulted in them deciding to organize this Society to perpetuate the social customs of the Fatherland.

The first meeting was held in the Bow Valley Public School building and the first officers were: John Wuestewald, president; Frank Thoene, Sr., vice president; John Noecker, secretary; W.D. Schulte, treasurer; Frank Riibe and Frank Leise, banner carriers; Anton Evers, Fred Fischer and Henry Kraemer, commanders; Frank Meirose, messenger; and Frank Thoene, Jr., Conrad Heger, and Henry Bruening, trustees.
