Peterson, family and friends establish Nana Peterson scholarship

WAYNE — Carter “Cap” Peterson, along with his family and friends, has established the Nana Peterson Endowed Scholarship at Wayne State College. This scholarship honors the memory of his late wife, Nana Peterson, and celebrates her deep love for the Wayne community and Wayne State.

Cap Peterson, a 1972 graduate of Wayne State, recently honored Nana’s legacy by creating a community garden in her name. Nana’s passion for the Wayne community and the people who call it home inspired Cap, his family, and colleagues from the antique shop where Nana worked to establish this scholarship.

The Nana Peterson Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen pursuing majors in Music, Art, or Applied Science, continuing Nana’s commitment to supporting students who contribute to making the Wayne community what it is today.

Cap Peterson serves as a Wayne State College Trustee, sits on the Foundation’s Executive Board, and is a member of the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees. He is also president of Northeast Nebraska Insurance Agency and was honored as the 2005 National Professional Insurance Agent of the Year.

“Nana truly loved the Wayne community and Wayne State College,” said Cap Peterson. “Through this scholarship, our hope is to honor her memory by supporting students who share her passion for creativity and community. It’s a way to give back in the manner that Nana felt was most important – helping those who are dedicated to enriching the Wayne community.”

“We are deeply grateful to Cap Peterson, his family, and friends for their generous support,” said Dr. Bob Machovsky, CEO of the Wayne State Foundation. “The Nana Peterson Endowed Scholarship not only honors Nana’s remarkable legacy but also provides invaluable opportunities for future students to thrive and contribute to our vibrant community.”

Additional supporters of the newly established Nana Peterson Endowed Scholarship include Cap Peterson’s children, colleagues who worked alongside Nana at Nana’s This & That antique shop, and faculty and staff members from Wayne State College.
