Cedar County now has three highly rated football teams

OMAHA — All three of northern Cedar County’s football teams are now in the Top 5 in most statewide polls.

For the third week in a row, the undefeated Cedar Catholic Trojans have been tabbed as the top team in Class C2.

Hartington’s other football team, the 3-0 Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats, moved up to fourth in the latest Omaha World-Herald Class D1 poll.

This is the highest rating the ‘Cats have had in over 20 years. Even though the Wynot Blue Devils picked up their first blemish of the season, the Devils remained in fourth place in the Class D2 polls. The Devils dropped a hard-fought 36-30 overtime decision to D2’s top-rated team, the Archangels of Humphrey.

Four more area teams, Bloomfied, Crofton, Wausa-Osmond and Plainview are also rated in the Top 10 in Class D1.
