HNS Lady ‘Cats post a 1-2 mark for the week

ATKINSON — The Hartington-Newcastle volleyball team capped a busy week at the GNAC Round Robin hosted by West Holt on Sept.

13, finishing 1-2 in the quadrangular. The Lady Wildcats defeated Summerland but dropped matches to West Holt and Lutheran High Northeast.

Earlier in the week, HNS fell 3-2 in a five-set home thriller against Neligh-Oakdale on Sept. 11.

The Lady Wildcats ended their three-match skid by sweeping Summerland 25-14, 25-23. But they dropped the final match of the day to West Holt. Vayda Lippert led the way with three kills, while Nora Lange and Karissa Bruning added two each. Lainey Morten chipped in one kill.

Justyce Sohl recorded 13 quality serve receives, and Lippert added seven. Lippert and Morten each had four digs, while Bruning served one ace.

Against Lutheran High Northeast, Hartington-Newcastle won the first set 25-18 and looked poised to close out the match, but the Lady Eagles rallied late in the second set for a 25-23 win. LHNE then took the deciding set 25-18 to hand the Lady Wildcats a 2-1 loss.

In the week’s opening match, Neligh-Oakdale outlasted HNS in five sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 15-10. Lippert finished with seven kills and 10 quality serve receives, while Morten tallied seven digs. Lippert and Sohl each added six digs.

Hartington-Newcastle, 4-9, was scheduled to visit Summerland again Sept. 16 before hosting Plainview and Elkhorn Valley in a triangular Sept. 23.
